I thought it was pretty super. I'm certain I'm not the only person observing this, but what I liked the most about it is also it's greatest weakness. Singer's reverence for Richard Donner's Superman movies at once helps create the feeling of a "return" and strikes the innocent, revisionist-nostalgia "good ol' days" vibe that is neccesary to do Superman without irony; yet that same reverence prevents Singer from making a film that feels like it's anything fresh or original. At its best it's a love letter, at its worst it's a slave. The special effects are pretty dazzling, though, and it does have a pretty good sense of humor.

I won't go off on my long rant of how the new costume robs the viewer of all potential iconography, I'll just say that in every shot Superman is literally draped in cynicism.
That's disgusting.

While I normally am the first one to try and shut down that rant Ian, and while my point still stands that there was no way to avoid it, I will agree that in thinking back there were moments I looked at the screen and thought, "That cape is just too damn dark."

Red, Yellow & Blue in their pure forms as primary colors are among a handfull perfect & indelible ideals in our universe.
It only makes sense that they represent Superman.
I wouldn't make this arguement for ANY other Super-hero costume being adapted to a movie, BTW.
And why the hell should I excuse the production for doing what they did?

I don't know what you guys are talking about. I was referring to Tuesday night's episode of Talk Soup. I don't remember what Aisha Tyler was wearing, but I'm pretty sure a cape wasn't part of her ensemble.
